From tired to terrific: Building a new website for Apex Plumbing & Heating

If you've ever looked at your website and thought, "Yeah... that looked great in 2015", you're not alone.

That's exactly where Apex Plumbing & Heating, based in the tiny Peak District hamlet of Brough, found themselves. Their existing website had served them well for years, but like an old boiler, it was starting to show its age. It still worked, but it wasn't doing them any favours.

They wanted something clean, modern and easy to navigate. A website that reflected the friendly, professional service they're known for, without overwhelming visitors with endless menus, flashing buttons, or the sort of design choices we all made when the internet was younger and less wise.

That's where we came in...

Step one: the chat

Before we touch a single pixel, we like to sit down with our clients and find out exactly what they want.

Not what we think they want.

Not what the latest web design trend says they want.

What they want.

We spent time with the Apex team discussing their business, their customers and what they needed the website to achieve. The brief was refreshingly straightforward:

  • Make it look professional

  • Make it easy to use

  • Make it easy to update

  • Make it work properly on mobile

  • Don't make it look like it was built during the reign of Queen Victoria

A solid brief, if we're honest.

Step two: the design

One thing we do a little differently at BrandBolt is that our website design process is completely free.

Why? Because it's important to get it right.

We created initial designs, gathered feedback, made changes, tweaked layouts, adjusted colours, moved things around, moved them back again, then slightly to the left, then back to where they were originally. You know, the usual design process.

After several rounds of edits, we landed on a look and feel that everyone was happy with.

Clean.

Friendly.

Professional.

And most importantly, unmistakably Apex.
Step three: the build

Once the design was signed off, it was time to bring everything to life.

We built a website that's easy to navigate, loads quickly, looks great on phones and tablets, and clearly showcases Apex's services and experience.

The structure was kept simple, helping visitors find what they need without having to click through six different pages and solve a riddle.

Because nobody has ever thought: "You know what would improve this website? More confusion."

Step four: getting found

A beautiful website isn't much use if nobody can find it.

Once the site was complete, we made sure everything was set up properly for Google, from page titles and descriptions to site indexing and technical setup.

That means Apex now has a website that not only looks the part but is ready to be found by customers searching for plumbing and heating services across the Peak District and surrounding areas.

You can take a look at the finished result here:

We're here for small businesses

Most of our clients look a lot like Apex.

They're local businesses doing excellent work, serving their communities and growing through reputation and word of mouth.

What they don't need is a £10k website packed with features nobody will ever use.

They need something professional, modern and affordable that helps customers find them and trust them.

That's exactly what we build.

Whether you're based in the Peak District, Sheffield, Chesterfield or anywhere nearby, we'll work with you to create a website that genuinely fits your business, without the agency jargon, hidden costs or mysterious meetings that could have been an email.

Most importantly: what's the verdict?

Thinking about a refresh?

If your website is looking a little tired, feeling difficult to update, or quietly embarrassing you every time someone asks for your web address, we'd love to help.

We'll sit down with you, understand what you need, design it properly, and build something you're proud to show off.

And yes, we'll happily move that button three pixels to the left if that's what it takes. It's just who we are...
